What a week. or two...

What with my first bout of flu in two years, losing my net access, a change of boxes by my ISP bringing down the RSS feeds and an exploding client's computer, its been a week I'd rather see the last of.

However, thanks to advertisers on GrantAvenue.coza, the project continues. Many thanks for the support, guys!

There are now three sites up and running, based on the RSS feed concept: Media.co.zw, grantavenue.co.za and airwork.co.za. PortStJohns.com now has a single page of information, relating to Eastern Cape, WildCoast and Durban. Two other sites will hopefully come on line in the next week or so.

The idea is to use a single RSS feed database to provide news relating to specific topics:
a) media.co.zw : the situation in Zimbabwe, in particular the impact of the new legislation
b) grantavenue.co.za: Johannesburg & Gauteng news, with particular focus on fashion, health, sports. News from the North (Pretoria) the South (Cape Town), the East Rand and West Rand is also highlighted. As GrantAvenue.co.za is based in the Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg, there is a major section of news from Sandton, Houghton, Orange Grove and Norwood.
c) airwork.co.za: the search facility for the whole RSS feed database. This search facility will be improved to enable multi-word searches and provision of RSS feeds for these search results.

Currently the RSS feed database is accessing around 450 news sources. As the final part of the network is put in place, it is expected that the coverage will increase to provide updated information from around 1,000 news sources, covering 200 countries and 5,000 personalities.

However, I've got to get out there are sell some more advertising to pay for all this. Advertising rates start at R200 a year, for links and "business cards", on individual sites. Advertising banner space is also available on the RSS feed topics in each website (health, fashion, etc.)

Anyway, leave a note if you enjoy the service, (or don't!)

best regards
tm
