These ZS1000 dollar notes were given to a customer as change in Harare at the weekend. They are in consecutive order 18 to 25 which indicates that they have just been issued by the Reserve Bank although they were printed some time back.
“In what other country in the world are you supposed to know that $1000 = $1 (new money) while $1000 = $1000 (if they are brown in colour). Of course it is an admission of inflation as $1000 was not buying anything when the bearer cheques came in and they could not allow it to suddenly rise in value to $1million (old money),” said the customer.
